Increasingly difficult to find, this gemmy blue Peruvian opal is reminiscent of warm Caribbean waters. Virgin Islands beach stone, freshwater pearl, fine silver.
Update February 2, 2011: I'm at the Tucson Gem Shows. Out of thousands of vendors only a handful carry ANY gem blue Peruvian opal and those items are 4-5 years old-- they've held onto them that long. As suspected, this material was completely mined out almost 5 years ago. The 5 or so strands of similar rondelle bead I've seen here are selling for a thousand dollars per strand! Prices for items containing these gems will be rising...
Size: 34 mm long from top of opal; 35 mm wide
